General technology grievances, frustrations, and all around funny stuff!

So being that we work in the media/technology industry we have dedicated this page to those discussions that do not fall under our other categories. Every day we find ourselves up against the world of technology, sometimes we win and sometimes the technology wins.

Enjoy and please contribute!

Jquerying Google?

So anyone who works in the media or technology industry knows what Jquery is and how great of a tool it can be. It simplifies javascript, creates kick ass animation effects, and makes Ajax interactions quick and easy.

All this aside I myself have not found it the easiest to install and integrate without some tough love. Now I am not a programmer by any means but I have done well over the years learning from a great programmer friend how to integrate scripts into my websites, and I have become quite good at it. So I was baffled when I tried to integrate a jquery slide animation into my new portfolio and could not do so with ease. In fact it was quite frustrating. After many hours of attempts I had to give in and call out for help and in doing so was able to implement the script: www.meghandonnellyrocks.com. (please ignore the unfinished content)

So after days of frustration and a final result that turned up pretty raw, my business partner and I have decided on a new venture. Why should these scripts only be out there for developers or those with a mind that doesn’t think in colors and white space. What if there was a product that would help ease the integration of these scripts into a designers hands? Well soon there will be.

Coming in the next few months we will be offering a great new product that will ease the frustrations of designers and developers everywhere! So keep your eyes and ears open.

My “smartphone” and its dumb problems

First let me start by saying, I love my BB (BlackBerry) and have owned one for almost five years now. I’m even posting this from my WordPress for BB application.

This being said what the heck has happened to BB Appworld? I upgraded to the BB Tour from the Curve because I wanted the extra features it had to offer. I was told before purchasing that I would be able to install all my previously purchased app’s on the new phone. Well this has not been the case.

Not only can I not login to purchase any previously purchased app’s. I can’t purchase any new app’s either. Both scenarios give my error messages. Well that’s an easy fix right? I should just call Verizon and talk to tech support. Wrong! Tech support said its a BB issue not a service provider issue so I need to contact them.

So after going to BB’s help center on their website and reading through the forums, my options are this:

1) Delete and re-open my paypal account that I have had for over 7 years. Because that will somehow effect app world.

2) Subscribe and pay a fee to talk to BB technical support, so they can fix their own problem.

3) Wait till they have an update that fixes the problem.

Needless to say all these options suck! For the super power that is BB you think they would offer a better solution than “deal with it till we fix it” or “rearrange your life to make our phone work”. I’m not impressed, and am deciding if BB should still be my phone of choice.

Social Networking Nightmares
These sites are great, if you can get them to work.

So we all know Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin…etc. Their great right? Only when they work. I have spent the better part of this morning trying to promote our companies site with business ads on FB (Facebook) only to have the page timeout 5 times. So do I keep trying or do I give up?

Social Networking is a great idea if you can get the big sites to work in your favor. This is the 6th day that I have tried to use the “business tools” on FB to promote ADG (Artifex Development Group) with no success. And of course going to the “help” section of their site has proven to be unsuccessful. There is no way to contact a human, so I have to rely on forums or other peoples questions to get an answer. Normally this is fine, but what if in some odd universe no one has had my problem, or if they have they have not asked for help? What do I do then? Are their FB gods that I don’t know about, and will they help me if I pray to them?

All these questions bring me to the conclusion of is Social Networking worth the time?

Celebrate Laughter, a new blog for the funny geek in all of us.

Welcome to Celebrate Laughter’s new blog!

At long last I have finally completed the look, feel, and layout for Celebrate Laughters new blog. I bet your all wondering “who the heck is celebrate laughter…” and “what the heck do they have to blog about…”. Well here goes nothing, were a group of computer/technology geeks that think were funny, and guess what it turns out most of the time we are. So what did we decide to do, tell everyone our funny stuff. Stories, work problems, and anything else that comes up in our daily lives that we perceive to be important information to the world of computer geeks.

Well that kind of answers the who, but the big who is Artifex Development Group. The design and development company that employees all of the geeks that post on this blog.

So that’s it, we needed a place to vent our funnies to the world and here we are. Please let us know if you have something funny from computer world to add.
